What is adultery?

Matthew 5:27-30 MEV
"You have heard that it was said by the ancients, 'You shall not commit adultery.' [28] But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. [29] And if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. For it is profitable that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be thrown into hell. [30] And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be thrown into hell.

Note: This is also talking about if a women looks at a man with lust too. It's not just some advice for the guys. Think about it.!

Lust is a key word to understanding adultery. What is lust? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, lust is this.

"usually intense or unbridled sexual desire"

Reference: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lust

Now re-read the words of Jesus again, now knowing what you just learned about what "lust" is.

"Whoever (man or women) looks on a women (or man) to lust (intense unbridgled sexual desire) after her (or him) has already committed adultery with her (or him) in his (or her) heart.

What are things that entice us to feel sexual lust?
  • sexual/adult/lust content on the media, TV, online, magazine, books, songs, movies, pornography, and other dark criminal things
  • people in real life such as your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, anyone around you
  • people or fantasies you think of
  • people or fantasies you obsess about

Let's talk about what is actually good and clean, that God has made, because sex is abused for evil but sex also has good when used in a good way.

"What is that good way?"

If you want to know what the Bible teaches and you desire to follow the Lord, please keep reading.

Genesis 2:18 MEV
Then the LORD God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helper suitable for him."

Point # 1 - God desired to put the first man and first women together. This is God's plan. This is God's sovereignty. Even if people today, live in contrary means to this scripture, regardless, you now know that God is the One in authority to make the first relationship of Adam and Eve. One man and one women. God didn't make Adam to have many Eves, but just one. God didn't make Eve to have several Adams's but just one. In this time, there was no other women in Adam's mind and also there were no other men in Eve's mind, they were totally in love and devoted to each other, as God planned and God designed it.

God makes the first marriage here.

Following this plan we ready these scriptures.

Genesis 2:20-25 MEV
The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. [21] So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept. Then He took one of his ribs and closed up the place with flesh. [22] Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man, He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. [23] Then Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she will be called Woman, for she was taken out of Man." [24] Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and they will become one flesh. [25] They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

A wife to her husband was a suitable helper, a companion. They are to be joined together and will become one flesh. There is no shame in their nakedness to each other, but this is a gift to each other as God has planned it. That is what the Bible clearly teaches. That is no opinion. That is truth. That is a absolute universal truth.

God created the marriage, God created the man and the women to share a special unique "joining" and marriage that is not to be shared with anyone else. This joining is not only physical sexual intercourse, but also in one mind and one flesh.

Do you see the plan?
Do you understand the plan?

Many will NOT agree with this plan, they hear and see, but they truly do not understand what is really being said or being planned by God. To understand a truth in the mind, yet to belief, and form opinions and beliefs outside of this is totally going out of God's revealed plan for all men and all women. To go away from this and do something else, is to be ignorant or in full rebellion against God.

If God made it, do not try to destroy it.
If God thought it was good for a man and women to be together in this way, in a marriage, do not try to break it up, do not try to destroy, interfere with what God has given others, and do not try to destroy you own marriage and love you originally had toward your wife (or husband).

If God made this marriage, this is valid in God's eyes. Anything else besides this is not valid. If a government makes new laws to cause God's laws to be disregarded such as a man can marry a man or a women can marry a women, then according to Genesis chapter 2 and Biblical and Christian marriage, this is outside of God's permitted plans and permitted will.

The argument has been made that "God didn't make Adam and Steve but Adam and Eve", which means, God created the life and had plans to have humans reproduce. Science also agrees with nature that a man and a man can't ever produce children because body of a women is not the same as the body of a man. This is an obvious truth, however, many today, are in disagreement and rebellion to God's revealed Word and God's revealed plan that they choose to go on their own way, in their own opinions, and their own ideas, and their own desires of the heart, and the societies and culturals around them, while seeming to be tolerant and allow things, are now making laws to change the way marriage and family and many things are now.

Some will even use the Bible to justify having more than one wife or having a relationship that God doesn't allow, because they are looking for teachers to scratch their itching ears. There are false teachers who will us God's love and God's grace as a license to sin.

You can see examples of this in Romans 6, Revelations 2 and 3 where a prophetess named Jezebel leads God's servants into sexual immorality and also in Jude (2nd to the last book of the Bible) where they turn the grace of God into lust (LASCIVIOUSNESS)

Here is what Jesus said about marriage

Matthew 19:4-6 MEV
He answered, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' [5] and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? [6] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man put asunder."

Let's define what God has made.

  • male
  • female
  • father
  • mother
  • man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife.
  • two becomes one flesh
  • God puts them together
  • don't allow any man or women to tear it apart (marriage bond)

Now you see the criteria for male, female, father, mother,

God is showing that He is the author of making the family. God mentioned a father and a mother. That is how any human got to be born on this planet. God allowed it, God planned it. God is above all, we are the creations of God, not above God, to to tell God and demand our way, because that is just foolishness. Demanding our way will not change the nature of the created order as well. Recognize and understand that truth.

Examples of running away from Adultery: (Joseph and Potiphar's wife).

Genesis 39

Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt. An Egyptian named Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh and the captain of the guard, purchased him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph. He was successful and lived in the household of his Egyptian master. 3 His master observed that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made everything he was doing successful. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant. Potiphar appointed Joseph overseer of his household and put him in charge of everything he owned. 5 From the time Potiphar appointed him over his household and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed the Egyptian’s household for Joseph’s sake. The blessing of the Lord was on everything that he had, both in his house and in his fields. 6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; he gave no thought to anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was well built and good-looking. 7 Soon after these things, his master’s wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me.” 8 But he refused, saying to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not give any thought to his household with me here, and everything that he owns he has put into my care. 9 There is no one greater in this household than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?” 10 Even though she continued to speak to Joseph day after day, he did not respond to her invitation to go to bed with her.

11 One day he went into the house to do his work when none of the household servants were there in the house. 12 She grabbed him by his outer garment, saying, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his outer garment in her hand and ran outside. 13 When she saw that he had left his outer garment in her hand and had run outside, 14 she called for her household servants and said to them, “See, my husband brought in a Hebrew man to us to humiliate us. He tried to go to bed with me, but I screamed loudly. 15 When he heard me raise my voice and scream, he left his outer garment beside me and ran outside.”

16 So she laid his outer garment beside her until his master came home. 17 This is what she said to him: “That Hebrew slave you brought to us tried to humiliate me, 18 but when I raised my voice and screamed, he left his outer garment and ran outside.”

19 When his master heard his wife say, “This is the way your slave treated me,” he became furious. 20 Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. So he was there in the prison.

21 But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him kindness. He granted him favor in the sight of the prison warden. 22 The warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care. He was in charge of whatever they were doing. 23 The warden did not concern himself with anything that was in Joseph’s care because the Lord was with him and whatever he was doing the Lord was making successful.

Example of escaping adultery: Job's confession  I love you

Job 31:1 MEV
"I made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I look upon a young woman?

Example of a patient finacee: Joseph while he waited until after Jesus Christ was born to know his wife.  Cool

Matthew 1:25 MEV
and did not know her until she had given birth to her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS.

Example of a husband loving his wife: Ephesians 5:25-31   Razz

Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her 26 to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word, 27 so that he may present the church to himself as glorious—not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one has ever hated his own body, but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
